Don’t let your emotions control your eating.

Yesterday, I received a disturbing phone call, at work, from my best friend.  She explained to me that her 6 month old baby was diagnosed with metopic sysnotosis and that he will undergo bone/skull surgery to repair the suture in his skull.  This surgery is 4 hours long and he will be in the hospital for about 5 days.  His recovery will take about 2 -3 months and he’ll have to wear a helmet during the entire recovery process.

I must admit, when she told me this news I was really shocked.  We didn’t realize anything was going on with his head, therefore we weren’t prepared for a diagnosis of this type.  He went to the doctor for his 6 month check-up and after a few cat scans and CT scans, this is the resulting news the doctors told my best friend.

Now this is going to sound crazy, but immediately after the phone call I became really hungry.  Or at least I thought I was hungry.  I was under allot of emotion and almost couldn’t control my desire to eat something.  I sat at my desk, in AWE, for about an hour, hoping I would calm down and relax.  But I didn’t!

Since I always keep protein bars and shakes at work, I picked up a protein bar and ate it.  I felt a little better, but it just didn’t make me feel better.

Now let me pause for moment and ask you, “Have you ever experienced something like this?”  Have you ever received some bad news and felt like you just wanted to eat?  Or, are you going through a few bad times and feel like your outlet is food?

Well, your not alone.  I’ve been there, heck, every one’s been there!  But here is what you have to remember; eating a piece of cake won’t solve the problem.  We can’t use food to self medicate ourselves, whenever we’re having problems.

Here is the cure.  Studies show that regular exercise and a good diet helps us control our emotions and allows us to make better decisions.  Sounds crazy, but it’s true.   So I want to challenge you to get in the gym, or get some type of home workout program.  Get your body moving, and yourself going.  Pull yourself up and out of that emotional rut.  Take your frustration out on the treadmill or elliptical.

Just don’t resort to BAD FOOD!!!!!!!!

Hi, first of all I have to say I am the BIGGEST fan of the Insanity workouts and P90X. It challenges me and is so my personality when it comes to the type to training I love and need.

I am a low carber… so I can’t really do the bars/meal replacements from beachbody. Just too high in carbs for ME. Very low carb dieting has been a way of life for me and I love it. I am able to keep lean and my weight stable, yet eat very healthy but eat lots of food especially when it comes to veggies :)

I do know there are times when I can’t cook, or I’m stuck in traffic or I just have a sweet tooth and protein bars have helped me… but most if not all bars out there are full of sugar, augar alcohols, agave or brown rice syrups and things of that nature that I don’t want to eat anymore.

In my search for the best bar around I came across Quest Protein Bars… OMG!!! The first truly LOW CARB bar. They’re brilliant! Perfect nutrition and no crap ingredients. 220 cals. High fiber, 20 grams of protein.
